The Former Ashimori Clan Samurai Residence (Former Fujita House), which belonged to the lineage of chief retainers of the former Ashimori Clan, is a precious building that retains the structure of a mid-Edo period samurai residence. You can observe the refined lifestyle of the samurai up close, including the simple and sturdy nagaya-mon gate, the prestigious entrance, and the beautiful Japanese garden reflecting seasonal changes. The surrounding streetscape is also a preservation district; walking through the quiet streets lined with old tile-roofed houses offers a calm time as if you've slipped back to the Edo period. It is a hidden spot loved by history fans.
