This castle site is engraved in history for the "Water Attack," an astonishing tactic used by Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the Sengoku period. Currently maintained as a park, remnants such as the giant embankments built to besiege the castle still convey memories of the fierce battle of that time. Especially in summer, beautiful lotus flowers bloom to fill the former moats, known as "Muneharu Lotus" to please the eyes of visitors. Along with the story of the castle lord Muneharu Shimizu, who protected his samurai pride to the end, you can quietly trace the place that became a major turning point in Japanese Sengoku history.
