Built in the 5th century, this is a massive keyhole-shaped burial mound boasting a total length of about 350 meters, making it the 4th largest in Japan. Surprisingly, despite its scale, it is an extremely rare place where visitors are still permitted to climb and walk on top of the mound. Standing on the massive earthwork, you can experience the overwhelming power of the rulers of that time. This ancient, large-scale civil engineering heritage suddenly appearing in a peaceful rural landscape evokes historical romance comparable to the pyramids of Egypt, making it a must-visit spot for archaeology fans.
