Kagoshima Castle Ruins (also known as Tsurumaru Castle Ruins), located in Kagoshima City, is a sacred center of Satsuma's politics and culture built by the first lord of the Satsuma Domain, Shimazu Tadatsune, around 1601, where the steep mountain castle (Shiroyama) behind and the residence at the foot were integrated, and is a high-class historical spot designated as a national historic site. The deep philosophy of the samurai that "it is protected by the harmony of people, not by a castle," by daring to have a simple structure without a castle tower, breathes here, and the dynamic appearance of the heavy, beautiful stone walls surrounding it and the "Go-ro-mon Gate," one of Japan's largest wooden castle gates, never cease to attract history fans from all over the world. You can deeply think about the turbulent footsteps of Saigo Takamori and others who accomplished the Meiji Restoration and quietly immerse yourself in deep historical romance.
