Satsumasendai City, located in the northwestern part of Kagoshima Prefecture, is a vast area where the flow of the magnificent Sendai River pours into the East China Sea, and it is an attractive coastal city where everything from the untouched dynamic remote island "Koshikijima Islands" to historic hot spring areas and samurai culture are gathered. It is full of historical romance, such as "Iriki-Fumoto," a high-class samurai residence group with about 800 years of history designated as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and the retro "Sendai Taki Hot Spring" loved by Saigo Takamori. Gourmet culture such as local fresh Takae shrimp (Satsuma sweet shrimp) and authentic sweet potato shochu is also highly acclaimed by overseas foodies.
