Located on Kamikoshiki Island within the Koshikijima Archipelago, "Nagame no Hama" is a globally rare, magnificent gravel-bar (tombolo) scenic landscape stretching about 40 meters wide and 4 kilometers long, beautifully separating the fierce East China Sea from three peaceful lagoon lakes (including Lake Namako and Lake Kai). Its name originates from an 18th-century lord of the Satsuma Domain who praised it as a "beach with a superb view," and the contrast between the azure ocean, white stone bar, and emerald-green lakes seen from the mountaintop observatory is a breathtaking masterpiece of structural beauty. Lake Kai is also academically invaluable, hosting the 3-billion-year-old microorganism "Chromatium," serving as a premier, secluded sanctuary to quietly indulge in the mysteries of great nature.
