Founded in the Meiji period, Saikotei was a leading restaurant in Yamaguchi loved by many prominent figures of the Meiji era, such as Hirobumi Ito and Kaoru Inoue. Today, it is open to the public as a historical and cultural exchange facility. The collection of plaques (calligraphy signs) by famous people displayed in the 100-tatami banquet hall is an impressive collection that tells the history of modern Japan. The greatest attraction here is the "kimono experience." You can wear colorful kimonos in a space filled with historical emotion and go for a stroll in the beautiful Japanese garden or around Yamaguchi City. In the space where politicians of the time discussed the nation, you can take the best photographs while feeling the end of the samurai era and the beginning of modern Japan firsthand.
