This is a cultural facility for "protecting, transmitting, and nurturing" the traditional crafts of Yamaguchi City. Inside the building, which recreates the appearance of traditional townhouses, you can observe artisans demonstrating skills passed down from the Muromachi period about 600 years ago, such as "Ouchi-nuri" (lacquerware) and "Akama-suzuri" (inkstones), a representative traditional craft of Yamaguchi. The greatest charm is the ability to actually experience making things, such as lacquer painting or decorating, under the guidance of artisans. Touching traditional techniques with your own hands and creating a one-of-a-kind work is a precious opportunity to deeply understand Japanese culture. It is a spot that satisfies intellectual curiosity, where you can experience the spirit of Japanese "monozukuri" (craftsmanship) and aesthetics in a quiet space.
