Located in the peaceful rural landscape of Sagano, "Rakushisha" is a thatched hut that was once the villa of Mukai Kyorai, a disciple of Matsuo Basho. The name originates from an episode where all the persimmons from the 40 trees in the garden fell overnight. The rustic thatched building and surrounding fields and mountains convey the quiet atmosphere where the Haiku culture of the Edo period still lives. While not a flashy tourist facility, the interior with straw raincoats and hats hanging on the walls allows you to feel the simple and rich lifestyle loved by the poets of that time. It is recommended for those interested in Haiku and those who love the simple satoyama culture of Kyoto.
