Located on the slopes of Mt. Ogura, Jojakko-ji is an atmospheric temple known for its thatched Niomon gate and magnificent city views from beside the Tahoto pagoda. The entire precincts are covered in lush trees, and especially during autumn, a mystical sight of the whole mountain stained red and yellow unfolds. The changing scenery as you climb the steep stone steps is beautiful, and from near the top, you can overlook as far as Mt. Hiei. With a historical background where Fujiwara no Teika is said to have compiled Waka poems, it is one of the most photogenic spots symbolizing Kyoto's autumn, harmonizing literary sentiment with overwhelming natural beauty.
