Unagi Onsen, spreading on the shores of the beautiful "Lake Unagi" nestled in the deep mountains of Ibusuki City, is a hidden hot spring mountain village and a secret hot spring that only those in the know are aware of, where the atmosphere of an old-fashioned, simple hot spring therapy resort still remains strong. The hot sulfur springs that gush out, unique to volcanic zones, are the biggest attraction, and it is famous as a place of historical romance where the great samurai of the Meiji Restoration, Saigo Takamori, stayed for a long time to heal his mind and body.
