Located in Izumi City, the "Izumi-Fumoto Samurai District" is a high-class historical area designated as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, which was a castle town for border defense called "Tojo" (outer castle) built by the Satsuma Domain during the Edo period. On the vast 44-hectare site, heavy stone walls, beautiful hedges, and beautiful wooden samurai residences preserved in their original state are arranged in an orderly fashion, and just walking through them wraps you in a deep emotion as if you had slipped through time. Tours of the interiors of samurai residences, strolling through beautiful Japanese gardens while wearing traditional kimonos, and the idyllic experience of being swayed in an oxcart are very popular with international tourists. It is the best sacred place to learn deeply in silence about the high-class aesthetic sense of the samurai and their traditional philosophy of life.
