Katsurahama Beach, a representative scenic landmark of Kochi City, is Kochi's premier high-class scenic site expanding in a beautiful bow shape facing the Pacific Ocean. The contrast woven by white sandy beaches, five-colored pebbles, and green pine forests lining behind radiates a traditional beauty just like a single Japanese painting. Celebrated since ancient times as a famous place for viewing the moon in waka poems, the "Sakamoto Ryoma Statue" stands looking out at the Pacific at the eastern edge's Ryuzu Cape, with historical romance drifting through the air. Walking the paths allows you to feel the powerful marine dynamism of crashing rough waves close up, and the view from the "Katsurama (Watatsumi) Shrine" atop the cape is outstanding. Complete with a retro aquarium and the commercial complex "Umi no Terrace" nearby, it is a popular coast to experience Tosa's nature, history, and food culture all at once.
