This park on Shodoshima is a unique facility themed around giant stones called "Zannen-ishi" (Regrettable Stones), which were cut for the reconstruction of Osaka Castle in the Edo period but left on the island without being used. Giant rocks with vivid chisel marks from the time of cutting are scattered about, and you can glimpse the astonishing technology and labor of ancestors who tried to transport such massive rocks in an era without heavy machinery. The museum in the park features experiential exhibits of stone splitting, allowing you to learn the background of Shodoshima supporting Japanese history as the "Island of Stone." Feeling the pleasant sea breeze while touching the historical romance and the power of the stones, it is a spot that satisfies both cultural depth and intellectual curiosity.
