This is a small, one-story wooden building located within the grounds of Shoin Shrine, yet it is a legendary private school that created the dawn of modern Japan. Under the guidance of Yoshida Shoin, it produced numerous leaders who would later move Japan, such as Hirobumi Ito and Shinsaku Takasugi. The building retains its original appearance and is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
