This is one of Japan's largest limestone caves and is designated as a National Special Natural Monument. Upon entering the cave, a vast underground space extending about 1 kilometer opens up, leaving visitors overwhelmed by the natural art created over tens of thousands of years by the Earth. Lighting illuminates fantastical formations like the "Hyakumai-zara" (One Hundred Plates), which looks like over 500 plates are lined up, and the "Kogane-bashira" (Golden Pillar), which appears as a giant golden column, making it feel like a different world. The temperature is constant at around 17 degrees Celsius throughout the year, providing a cool stroll in summer and a warm one in winter. Together with the vast Akiyoshidai karst plateau nearby, it is a leading scenic spot in Yamaguchi where you can experience the Earth's dynamism with all five senses.
