The oldest temple on Miyajima and a prestigious head temple of the Omuro school of Shingon Buddhism. Located near Itsukushima Shrine, it is enveloped in an even more quiet and sacred atmosphere. The grounds are packed with highlights, such as numerous Buddhist statues like "Ichigan Daishi" and "Mani wheels" that grant the same merit as chanting sutras when spun. In particular, the "Eternal Fire," which has burned without interruption for over 1,200 years since Kobo Daishi practiced here, is a must-see. This fire was also the source for the "Flame of Peace" in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. It's a sanctuary with very high spiritual satisfaction where you can experience the depth of Japanese Buddhist culture through all five senses.
