A historic town that once flourished as a "Tenryo" (shogunate-controlled territory) and as a post town carrying silver from the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine to the Seto Inland Sea. White-walled storehouses and merchant houses line the main street, conveying former prosperity to the present. Especially, as the name "Joge" suggests, it is also a place where water divides between the Sea of Japan side and the Seto Inland Sea side at the watershed. You can feel the depth of Japanese history with every step through traditional architectural styles like "Namako-kabe" walls and the retro atmosphere of the "Okinaza" theater. It is a perfect off-the-beaten-path spot for those who want to enjoy a quiet town walk where regional lives and history naturally blend.
