An extremely rare hall built as if jutting out into a hollow of a deep mountain cliff in Wakasa Town. Said to have been built in the Heian period, it is a National Important Cultural Property. Its structure is reminiscent of the Nageire-do on Mt. Mitoku, and the sight of human faith and architectural techniques merging within rugged nature even evokes divinity. The contrast between the silent surrounding forest and the wooden architecture clinging to the cliff is extremely photogenic, truly a place worthy of being called a "hidden gem." A spot highly recommended for adventurous travelers who want to feel the depth of Japanese mountain architecture and the weight of history sleeping in remote places.
