Located on the border with Hyogo Prefecture and surrounded by mountains such as Mt. Hyonosen, this is a town overflowing with history and outdoor charm. In the center of the town, an old streetscape with an arcade-like structure called "Kariya" to protect buildings from snow remains, strongly retaining the atmosphere of an Edo-period post town. Additionally, the "Fudoin Iwayado" built in a precipitous cliff is a mystical spot reminiscent of the Nageire-do on Mt. Mitoku. With plentiful activities based in great nature—skiing in winter, camping and climbing in summer—it is a place where you can feel the weight of history having coexisted with Japan's harsh nature.
