Built to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the transfer of the capital to Kyoto, this shrine features beautiful, vibrant vermilion buildings. The vast grounds, modeled after the main palace of the ancient capital Heian-kyo, symbolize the elegance of imperial culture. The main attraction is the "Shin-en" garden, spanning about 33,000 square meters. In spring, the weeping cherry trees (Benishidare-zakura), famously appearing in Tanizaki Junichiro's novels, bloom brilliantly, reflecting in the pond like a painting. Its giant Torii gate is a landmark of the Okazaki area, and as a stage for the Jidai Matsuri festival, it offers a colorful experience of Kyoto's traditional beauty.
