Taiko-iwa, standing resolutely at the deepest part of Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge on Yakushima at an altitude of about 1,050 meters, is a superb power spot at the island's highest peak that hikers from all over the world admire, where a huge granite rock head protrudes literally like a drum. When you climb the steep primeval forest mountain trail with a spirit of adventure and step one foot on the rock, you can overlook the vast panorama of the deep mountains' peaks, including the highest peak in Kyushu, Mt. Miyanoura, and the endless spreading primeval forest from the best angle below your eyes. The overwhelming sense of openness and wild beauty are breathtaking and very photogenic. In particular, the contrast with the full view of spring wild cherry blossoms and autumn foliage is a masterpiece, and it is a sacred place where you can experience the great vitality of the earth with your five senses.
