Mt. Yuwan, rising high on Amami Oshima (Uken-son/Yamato-son), is the highest mountain on the island boasting an altitude of 694 meters, and is a sacred mountain spot where untouched, dynamic subtropical plants remain, which became the core region of the World Natural Heritage in 2021. The entire area around the summit is often shrouded in mysterious mist, and deep evergreen primeval forests where the huge fern plant called "Living Fossil," "Cyathea lepifera," and the valuable endemic ecosystem unique to Amami breathe, spread out.
