Sprawling across a rolling hill in Tatsugo Town at an altitude of about 300 meters, the "Amami Nature Observation Forest" is a premier ecotourism destination where beginners and international hikers can safely and easily trek through the rich, dynamic subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest registered as a World Natural Heritage site in 2021. Moss-covered giant tree ferns called "Hikagehego" and rare endemic flora frame the walking paths, offering deep, refreshing relaxation just by walking. The park serves as a thriving habitat for rare endemic creatures and birds designated as national natural protected treasures, including the vibrantly colored Lidth's jay, making its nature tours highly popular among global visitors. The observation deck rewards hikers with an unobstructed, grand southern panorama of the emerald-green ocean and Koniya Strait, filled with pure natural energy.
