Spreading across the central part of Amami Oshima, the "Kinsakubaru Primeval Forest" is a mysterious woods where an untouched, dynamic subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest remains, serving as the core of the World Natural Heritage site designated in 2021. Here, giant tree ferns called "Hikagehego," known as living fossils, tower several meters high, and the sight of them spreading to block out the sunlight creates an overwhelming, extraordinary environment, as if you have traveled back in time to the prehistoric era of dinosaurs. A precious ecosystem of endemic species, such as the Amami rabbit and Lidth's jay, which are national protected species, thrives within. Eco-tours walking with certified guides are extremely popular among international tourists, making it a premier power spot to deeply immerse all five senses in Earth's primitive vitality and the silence of the deep forest.
