Quietly nestled within the deep, rolling primordial forests of the Shimabara Peninsula, "Ayugaeri Falls" is a magnificent natural power spot exhibiting remarkable sculptural beauty. The sight of pure white, forceful water cascading down from a height of about 14 meters and width of 2 meters into a vast, crystal-clear emerald green plunge pool elegantly conveys Earth's overwhelming life force and breath. Legend says that sweetfishes (ayu) swimming up the river turned back here due to its sheer intensity, giving its unique name. The scenery—harmonizing dynamic flat rock formations ("Senjojiki") with deep green forests—is beautifully picture-like, and inhaling the massive amount of negative ions and pure alpine air thoroughly refreshes mind and body from the core.
