Standing proudly within the idyllic rural farmlands near the coastline of Nankoku City, the "Maehama Bunker Group" (Maehama Entai-gun) is the remains of heavy concrete dome-shaped military bunkers (hangars) constructed during the turbulent end of World War II to protect Japanese fighter planes from foreign aerial attacks and vessel bombardments. Currently, 7 bunkers of various sizes are carefully preserved in their ancient structural appearances amidst vast green agricultural fields, with their unique, heavy ruin beauty thoroughly captivating history fans and photographers worldwide. Strong traces of intense hand-construction by local youths and residents using limited resources during wartime remain on the concrete surfaces, serving as a highly precious historical landmark to quietly stroll past while reflecting on the dawn of modern Japan's turbulent history.
