Located in the eastern part of Kochi Prefecture, "Aki City" is a history-emotion rich, beautiful castle town embraced by the grand sea of the Pacific Ocean and rich green mountains. The "Doi Kachu" district, designated as a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, deeply retains beautiful live hedges and heavy samurai residences with their Edo-period appearances intact, conveying the breath of the samurai era to this day. Furthermore, the town's symbol "Nora-dokei" (Field Clock), entirely hand-constructed by a local engineer during the Meiji period, stands as a highly photogenic landmark within idyllic rural landscapes. With thriving high-level local gourmet specialty stores serving "Aki Shirasu-don" utilizing fresh chirimen-jako (shaved whitebait), it is a city where you can leisurely appreciate good old Japanese traditions and ocean blessings.
