Muroto School-Aquarium, located in Muroto City, is a unique, nostalgic aquarium that has gathered worldwide attention, boldly renovating an elementary school building closed due to declining birthrates. Stepping inside, original vaulting horses, desks, and blackboards are utilized as exhibition fixtures, allowing you to touch a nostalgic aspect of Japanese school culture. The biggest surprise is the outdoor 25-meter swimming pool turned into a giant water tank, where you can closely observe sea turtles, sharks, and large fish swimming leisurely. Hand-washing areas have also been converted into touch pools, allowing direct interaction with local marine life from Muroto's sea. It is a premier amusement facility where the memories of a rustic Japanese educational site and rich marine ecosystems are funly merged.
