Genjigadaba, located on the border between Ehime and Kochi prefectures at the westernmost tip of the Shikoku Karst, is an overwhelmingly scale spectacular scenic power spot at about 1,400 meters altitude where you can experience the earth's pulse close up. Long ago during the Genpei War, the Genji samurai forces historically set camp on this land and trained prized horses, from which its name originated. Across the vast green grasslands, giant white limestone rocks (kallen) carved over long years of rainwater erosion stand tightly, creating a highly mystical and dynamic landscape as if wandering into ancient Stonehenge or a different planet. From the observatory space, a 360-degree unobstructed panorama extends of grand Shikoku mountains, and on clear days, as far as the Pacific Ocean—truly a "paradise in the sky."
