Marugame Castle, the symbol of Marugame City, is a "Castle of Stone Walls" boasting over 400 years of history. Its magnificent stone walls, with a total height of over 60 meters (the highest in Japan), feature a gentle curve called "Ogi-no-Kobai" (Fan Slope), and its overwhelming sculptural beauty fascinates castle fans worldwide. The wooden main keep sitting at the summit is one of only 12 "Original Keeps" remaining in Japan, a precious heritage conveying the appearance of the Edo period. The castle grounds are maintained as a park, and from the keep, a spectacular view of the Great Seto Bridge and the Seto Inland Sea archipelago spreads out. It is one of Kagawa's best view spots, loved by citizens as a cherry blossom site in spring and showing a fantastic figure with illuminated stone walls at night.
