Megijima, also known as "Onigashima" (Ogre Island), is located about 20 minutes by ferry from Takamatsu Port. The giant "Onigashima Cave," said to be the setting of the Momotaro legend, is located near the summit of the island, where you can enjoy a mysterious exploration. Additionally, art pieces from the Setouchi Triennale are dotted around the island, and the unique village landscape with "Ote" stone walls built for wind and tide protection is charming. In spring, about 3,000 cherry trees dye the island pink, and from the observatory, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama of the Seto Inland Sea. The coastline with beautiful sandy beaches is crowded with swimmers in summer. It is a playful island perfect for refreshing away from the city hustle with its legends, art, and calm island time.
