Tokushima Central Park, maintained on the site of Tokushima Castle, is a place of pride for Tokushima citizens where historic weight and natural beauty merge. Heavy stone walls and the "Eagle Gate" convey the former castle town's atmosphere. Particularly famous is the "Hachisuka-zakura," known as an early-blooming cherry blossom. Protected by the Tokushima lords, the Hachisuka family, since the Edo period, these cherries bloom lovely pink flowers from late February to March, slightly earlier than common cherries, heralding spring's arrival. Furthermore, the "Old Tokushima Castle Omote-goten Garden" in the park is a magnificent dry landscape garden designated as a National Scenic Beauty, allowing immersion in traditional Japanese aesthetics amidst silence. A cultural spot essential for town walks to touch Tokushima's historical origin.
