Located in Shimonoseki City, this is a historic shrine known as the "Guardian of the Kanmon Strait," enshrining Emperor Ojin and others. Known for having the world's largest granite torii gate, the sight of it standing against the backdrop of the sea and the Kanmon Bridge is grand. Inside the precincts, there are many spots associated with history, such as monuments related to the Taira clan and the world's largest pufferfish (fugu) statue. Since the Shimonoseki "Akama Shrine" and "Kamonwharf" are nearby, it is perfect for a stroll while feeling the sea breeze. It is a place widely loved by both locals and tourists as a power spot where the legendary breath of the Genpei War and the modern maritime landscape merge, and prayers for safe voyages and match-making are offered.
