This museum utilizes the Former Prefectural Office Building and the Former Prefectural Assembly Hall, built in 1916 by leading architects of the Taisho era. The exterior, in a Neo-Renaissance style blending brick and stone, radiates a beauty symbolizing Japan's desire for modernization at the time. Inside, the former luxurious Governor's Office and assembly chamber are preserved as they were, and craftsmanship lives on in every detail, such as the heavy wooden stairs and delicate decorations. Besides being able to learn in detail about Yamaguchi Prefecture's progress and the history of Japan's governance after the Meiji Restoration, the artistic value of the architecture itself is an intellectual tourist attraction that never ceases to fascinate photography lovers and architecture fans.
