A massive, flat rock rising from the coast of Nishinoshima, named so because it looks like a "Byobu" (folding screen). The vertical rock wall juts out from the sea with geometric beauty. The regular joints formed by cooling volcanic rock are spectacular, and the giant wall carved by nature over ages overwhelms viewers. Approaching by boat reveals its surprising height and texture. Standing tall against wind, rain, and waves, it exudes a strength reminiscent of a samurai. The harmony with the surrounding blue sea is superb, making it a highly attractive subject for photographers.
