Located on the approximately 900-meter-high Mt. Mitoku, this temple is famous for having a National Treasure in the most dangerous location in Japan. In particular, "Nageire-do," built in a hollow of a precipitous cliff, has a legend that the founder En no Gyoja threw it in with his spiritual power, and its architectural beauty and mystery overwhelm visitors. Visiting requires climbing steep mountain paths, making it a serious ascetic experience wearing "waraji" (straw sandals) or shoes with good grip. The wooden architecture in harmony with harsh nature allows you to feel the essence of Japan's mountain worship. For adventurous people confident in their physical strength, it is a spiritual destination that will remain a lifelong memory.
