"Kinpusen-ji Temple," soaring on Mt. Yoshino, is the head temple of Shugendo and a representative sacred site of Nara registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The National Treasure main hall "Zao-do" boasts a scale second only to Todai-ji's Daibutsuden among wooden structures, its overwhelming presence taking one's breath away. Enshrined inside are three massive blue 7-meter-tall Buddhas, "Kongo Zao Daigongen," whose mystical appearance combining mercy and power shakes the souls of visitors. The precincts, enveloped in cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage, are filled with the prayer energy of Yamabushi monks who have trained for over 1,300 years, making it a supreme place to experience the ultimate Japanese spiritual culture.
