"Oka-dera Temple," located midway up a mountain in Asuka Village, is an ancient temple known as Japan's first site for warding off bad luck (Yakuyoke). Its official name is Ryugai-ji, with legends of sealing an evil dragon that plagued the village in a pond. The principal image, "Gien Sojo Sitting Statue," is Japan's largest clay Buddha and is known for its overwhelming presence. In spring, rhododendrons and dahlias color the precincts, and the beauty of "Hanachozu" (flower-filled water basins) attracts global attention on SNS. Situated on high ground overlooking Asuka Village, it's an attractive place merging mystical stories and floral beauty.
