An ancient temple boasting over a thousand years of history, also referred to as the "Hieizan of the West." Located on Mt. Shosha at an altitude of 371 meters, beyond the ropeway climb spreads a sanctuary of silence where solemn temple buildings (hall buildings) stand in line amidst deep forest. Famous as a filming location for the movie "The Last Samurai," its overwhelming presence and historical weight overwhelm visitors from all over the world. Zazen and sutra copying experiences are also possible here. It is one of the most recommended places for authentic travelers seeking a quiet journey to touch the essence of Japanese spiritual culture in a space completely isolated from the bustle of the city.
