Murotsu, boasting over 1,300 years of history, was once one of the leading port towns on the Seto Inland Sea where envoys to Tang China and daimyo on sankin-kotai stopped by. Old houses built crowdedly along the coastline and the remains of the "Gohonjin," a former guesthouse, convey the prosperity of those days.
