Established in 593 by Prince Shotoku, this is the oldest official temple in Japan. The five-storied pagoda and main hall preserve the layout of the Asuka period, offering a solemn atmosphere of the origin of Japanese Buddhist culture. Walking the corridors surrounding the central complex lets the weight of 1,400 years sink in. Antique markets held on the 21st and 22nd of each month are popular, offering a unique "Osaka temple" charm where traditional faith and local vitality merge.
