A famous Zen temple founded by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Inside Japan's oldest existing Hatto (Lecture Hall), there is a giant "Crying Dragon" painted on the ceiling, where you can experience the mysterious phenomenon of the sound echoing when you clap your hands. Holding an extremely high status as the head temple of Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji, the on-site "Jotenkaku Museum" displays treasures like those by Ito Jakuchu. The precincts, filled with silence that makes you forget you are in the city center, are an intellectual sanctuary where you can thoroughly enjoy the power and sharpened aesthetics of Zen architecture.
