Omihachiman City developed as a castle town built by Toyotomi Hidetsugu during the Sengoku period, and is a historical city where the wisdom and business spirit of the former "Omi Merchants" breathe. Along the "Hachiman-bori Moat" that circles the town, white-walled storehouses and old merchant houses line the banks, offering beautiful scenery that makes you feel as if you've slipped back in time to the Edo period.
