"Rokkaen" in Kuwana City is the residence of a businessman who was active from the Meiji to Taisho periods. It is a very unique architectural structure combining a Western-style building designed by Josiah Conder, who designed the Rokumeikan, with a traditional Japanese house. The scenery, where the Western-style building with its impressive blue exterior harmonizes with a vast strolling garden around a central pond, symbolizes the history of Japan attempting to incorporate Western culture at that time. This unique space where Japanese and Western beauty coexist is also popular as a filming location for movies. It is a spot of high cultural value where you can experience the progress of modern Japanese architecture and the luxurious lifestyle of that era.
