Stretching for approximately 22 kilometers from Kumano City to Kiho Town, "Shichiri Mihama" is Japan's longest gravel beach. Selected as one of the "100 Best Beaches in Japan" and a "World Heritage" site, the landscape covered with colorful pebbles polished by the rough waves of the Kumano Sea exudes a unique beauty. While swimming is prohibited, walking while listening to the endless horizon and the pleasant "clatter" of waves washing over the stones offers a meditative experience. Nature is so rich that loggerhead sea turtles come to lay their eggs in early summer, making it a sacred coast where you can feel the powerful energy of the sea.
