Kawarage Jigoku is a mountain where sulfurous gas still erupts, preventing plant life from growing, leaving the entire mountain exposed as a rocky surface of strange and jagged stones. Also known as the sacred mountain "Kawarage," its landscape is intensely eerie, truly resembling the appearance of hell. It is counted as one of the Three Great Sacred Places of Japan, alongside "Mount Osore of Nanbu" and "Mount Tateyama of Etchū." Note: Roads are closed during the winter season, from early November to early May.
