Nagashiri Fūketsu (Wind Cave) is located at the foot of Mt. Kunimi ($454text{m}$), releasing cold air at $0text{ to }5^circtext{C}$ even in midsummer. Consequently, at the surrounding elevations of $170text{ to }240text{m}$, plants typically found in subalpine zones around $1,000text{m}$ above sea level, such as Rosa davurica (Ōtakanebara) and cranberries (Koke momo), grow in clusters.Because cold air blows out from this wind cave area at the foot of the mountain, Fūketsu warehouses were constructed on parts of the slope from the end of the Meiji era to the Taisho era and were used as natural refrigerators. They primarily preserved Tsugaru apples to be shipped to the Kanto region. The Nagashiri Fūketsu Museum has been established here, where visitors can learn about the mechanism and uses of the wind cave. Furthermore, the walking paths allow for easy observation of plants that would normally only be seen by climbing high mountains. Please come and visit for nature observation or to escape the summer heat.
