A true symbol of Noshiro, the City of Wood. This elegant and grand structure makes full use of high-quality Akita cedar, showcasing the artistry of Noshiro’s culture and woodcraft tradition. The highlight is the 110-tatami grand hall, featuring a massive central pillar and an intricate ceiling where panels of natural Akita cedar, each the size of a tatami mat, are arranged in a swastika-like pattern. Its magnificent design reflects the prosperity of the era when it was built in 1937. This video also introduces other attractions in the Akita Shirakami area. Please note that it was produced during the COVID-19 pandemic; currently, sightseeing is available without wearing masks.
