Since ancient times, this island has been a strategic point for maritime traffic in the Seto Inland Sea, having a history as an &#8220;Island of Gods&#8221; where rituals to pray for maritime safety were held. Many precious relics such as Heian-period celadon have been discovered on the island, making it an interesting spot for history fans. Today, it is loved as a quiet resort where very transparent seas and unadorned fishing village scenery remain.
